Sustainability

Sustainability at Hotel Klein Zwitserland: Use of sustainable products and Green Key Gold Certification.

At Hotel Klein Zwitserland, sustainability is paramount. We're convinced that our choices today contribute to a better world tomorrow. That's why we're passionate about reducing our environmental footprint, while supporting the local economy by partnering with regional producers who share our passion for sustainability.

As a testament to our commitment to sustainability, we are proud of our Green Key Gold certification, the highest level of environmentally friendly business practices in the tourism industry. This certification guarantees that we adhere to the strictest standards in all areas – from energy consumption to waste management – without compromising on the comfort and quality of our guests.

Our (local) partners for sustainable products:

  • Bakery Vermeeren (Slenaken)

For our breakfast bread and delicious pies, we collaborate with Bakkerij Vermeeren, a traditional bakery with a heart for people and the environment. Vermeeren consciously chooses local ingredients and sustainable packaging. Thanks to this shared vision of quality and responsibility, we can serve our guests not only fresh, but also honest and sustainable bread.

· Butcher shop Nuijts (Noorbeek)

Butcher shop Nuijts is known for its artisanal quality and commitment to sustainability. We collaborate with this local butcher shop to source responsibly sourced meat. Nuijts works with regional farmers who use animal-friendly and environmentally conscious methods, ensuring high-quality meat with minimal ecological impact.

· Fruit company Notermans (Noorbeek)

From blossom to harvest. For over 50 years, Notermans Fruit Farm has been growing fruit: pears, apples, strawberries, and a variety of berries like blackberries, raspberries, and various berries. They also make syrup and jam from their own fruit.

· Dairy farm Mergelland (Reijmerstok)

In the heart of Reijmerstok, there's a dairy farm with its own artisanal dairy processing facility. Dairy products made from natural ingredients from the Mergelland region can be found on the farm. The cheeses and honey are among the items featured in the breakfast buffet.

· Flour from the Commandeursmolen (Mechelen)

The bread and pastries you taste with us are made with flour from the Commandeursmolen, a regional mill that has been powered by wind since 1882. Their craftsmanship and respect for traditional methods perfectly match our vision of sustainable and locally produced food.

· The Geulhof – Trout Pond (Mechelen)

The Forellenvijver (Forest Pond) in Mechelen is a beautiful nature reserve where trout is farmed sustainably. We work closely with this local trout pond to purchase fresh, environmentally farmed fish. This way, our guests can enjoy delicious, locally caught trout, straight from the South Limburg countryside.

Gulpener Beer (Gulpen)

We proudly serve Gulpener beer, a local beer brand that prioritizes sustainability. Gulpener brews its beer with locally sourced ingredients and uses organic and responsibly grown raw materials. This way, our guests can enjoy a refreshing, craft beer brewed with respect for nature and the environment.

· Blanche Dael Coffee (Maastricht)

Enjoy our artisanally roasted coffee from Blanche Dael, a family business from Maastricht that has stood for quality and sustainability since 1878. By consciously choosing responsible production and fair trade, we support a sustainable supply chain together.

·        Prop’s Brewery - Kombucha (Maastricht)

Our kombucha comes from local brewers in Maastricht who use natural fermentation processes and only natural ingredients. A responsible thirst quencher that contributes to a healthy lifestyle and respects the environment.

· Shell Juices

For a refreshing and pure taste with lunch or dinner, we serve Schulp juices, made with unsprayed fruit from the Netherlands. These juices are free of additives, pure and natural, and produced entirely locally.

· Various local wine suppliers

In addition to all the suppliers mentioned above, we also purchase wines from local and/or organic wineries. Examples of local wineries include: Apostelhoeve, St. Martinus, Steenberg Estate, De Planck Wine Estate, Mergelsberg Wine Estate, Aldenborgh Estate, Pietershof Vineyard (BE), and Château de Bousval Vineyard in Bousval (BE).

At Hotel Klein Zwitserland, we combine luxury and comfort with sustainability by working with local partners and our Green Key Gold certification to contribute to a responsible and environmentally friendly future.
